BJAAM is pleased to present this full time, entry level opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to join our team as an “Environmental Technician” within our Underground Storage Tank (UST) Department. The selected candidate will head up a new field operations office to be located in close proximity to Indianapolis, Indiana.
This opportunity requires some limited overnight travel, a valid driver’s license (without restrictions), and a residence within fifty miles of Indianapolis, Indiana (i.e., the later within thirty days after permanent placement). BJAAM also requires OSHA health and safety training per CFR1910.120, medical monitoring, and complete compliance with a Drug Free Workplace Policy prior to permanent placement. Additional requirements and qualifications are described below.
To conduct BJAAM’s field work for our existing UST clients and projects in Indiana, southwest Ohio, and northern Kentucky including, but not limited to: emergency response activities, gathering field data, managing UST closures, excavation activities, and remedial activities, client/regulatory correspondence, initial report writing, completion of service station compliance audits/activities, and conducting all phases of corrective action activities regulated under the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Bureau of Underground Storage Tanks Regulation (BUSTR), and the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources (KDNR).
Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and co-workers. The selected candidate will also participate in marketing campaigns such as organizing email and social media blasts.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor degree or higher in geology, environmental science, or engineering. Candidate must have a minimum of one (1) year work experience or qualifying internship conducting similar field work and experience.
Additional Responsibilities as Needed:
· Underground storage tank system closure oversight, excavation oversight, compliance with OSHA requirements, site surveying, rig geologist duties, monitoring well installation;
· emergency response activities, site management, free product recovery, soil/groundwater sampling/preservation/chain of custody;
· aquifer/site characterization and compliance reporting;
· maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with appropriate procedures, rules, and regulations;
· maintaining the stability and reputation of the organization by complying with legal and waste management requirements; and
· contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Full regulatory knowledge of IDEM’s Storage Tank Program regulations and Indiana’s Excess Liability Trust Fund (ELTF). Must be capable of budget maintenance and possess strong communication abilities for effective correspondence with clients, regulatory personnel, and co-workers.
