The site is an active gasoline fueling facility located in Muskingum County, Ohio. BJAAM was contracted by the responsible party, who is no longer the property owner, to address remnant concentrations of chemicals of concern (COCs) that remained in soil and groundwater following the submittal of a Tier 2 Evaluation by a previous consultant. Data indicated that concentrations of COCs in groundwater exceeded BUSTR action levels for groundwater ingestion. Two distinct soil horizons were present at the site; an upper clay zone that contained concentrations of COCs that exceed action levels to a depth of approximately 12 feet below surface grade (bsg) and a lower sand and gravel zone that contained COCs that exceed action levels at depths that extend up to 40 feet bsg. BJAAM successfully implemented a three (3) phase Tier 3 Evaluation Work Plan that included: confirmatory soil sampling and well installation, the collection of site-specific geotechnical and hydrogeological data, groundwater monitoring, surrogate volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis to address elevated total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) concentrations in the lower soil zone, the compilation and filing of an Environmental Covenant, the excavation of impacted soils in the upper soil zone, groundwater fate and transport modeling, the derivation of site-specific target levels (SSTLs) using BUSTR SSTL calculation spreadsheets and the completion of a multiple chemical adjustment calculation. BUSTR issued the site No Further Action (NFA) status on June 26, 2015.
