Announcing an Abandoned Gas Station (AGS) Grant awarded to the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation (COCIC) for property located on the corner of Taylor Avenue and Granville Street in Columbus, Ohio! BJAAM was privileged to assist with the grant application and looks forward to future assessment and corrective action activities.

In the 1920s, a former gas station occupied this property for nearly two decades. Throughout the years various other businesses would occupy this site until its vacancy in 2016. The property still contained an abandoned building, asphalt parking lot, and three (3) underground storage tanks before the COCIC acquired the property in March 2018.

A previous Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) documented soil contamination above BUSTR action levels, and a Class C status was granted to this release. In April 2018, BJAAM was contracted by the COCIC for a Phase I ESA and drafting of an AGS grant application.

On August 20, 2018, the site was awarded an AGS Assessment/Corrective Action Grant of $250,000. Due to its location in a residential area and close proximity to the Ohio State University Hospital East, the COCIC made it a priority to remove the abandoned eye sore and eliminate any potential sources of contamination. Redevelopment would assist in potentially turning this vacant site into a future business opportunity or community park.
