Announcing an Abandoned Gas Station (AGS) Grant awarded to the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation (COCIC) for a site located on Norton Road in Grove City, Ohio! This property operated as a gasoline filling station and grocery store from the 1960s to mid-1980s. In 1995, the only building that existed on the site was demolished and the property has been undeveloped and vacant ever since.

Prior to the road re-alignment in 1991, soil and groundwater contamination along Norton Road was identified that were above Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation action levels. The release was granted a Class C status due to the responsible party’s inability to pay in 2015. The COCIC obtained the property in July 2018 in order to complete an AGS grant cleanup on the site. During the September 2018 Phase I site walk and ground penetrating radar scan, a metallic structure that resembled a UST along with a septic tank was identified on the site.

On February 11, 2019, the site was awarded an AGS Assessment/Corrective Action Grant of $243,500. BJAAM was contracted by the COCIC to perform the AGS Grant activities. The end use of this property has not been decided, but redevelopment of the site would assist in turning the vacant lot into a future business opportunity or use for surrounding properties.
